About An Nafud
A great sand desert in the north of the Arabian Peninsula. Famous for its red dunes colored by iron oxide. Strong winds build large crescent shaped dunes. The Arab Revolt force of T. E. Lawrence and Auda abu Tayi crossed its edge in 1917 on the march to Aqaba. Rare winter rains briefly cover parts with grass.
