About Gurbantunggut Desert
The second largest desert in China, filling much of the Dzungarian Basin. Mostly fixed and semi-fixed dunes held in place by saxaul and other shrubs. Winter snow cover makes it unusually moist for a desert. It lies near the Eurasian pole of inaccessibility, the point on land farthest from any ocean.
