About Nubian Desert
Lies east of the Nile between the river and the Red Sea in northeastern Sudan. A rocky sandstone plateau with few oases and almost no rainfall. The Nile makes its great bend around it. Kitchener built a military railway straight across it from Wadi Halfa in the 1890s to supply his campaign against the Mahdists.
