About White Desert
A protected area north of the Farafra oasis known for its white chalk formations. Wind erosion has carved the soft chalk into mushroom and pillar shapes, some resembling animals. The chalk is the remains of an ancient seabed. It was declared a national park in 2002. A popular site for overnight camping trips.
