About Bledow Desert
The largest area of loose sand in Poland, between Krakow and Katowice. Largely created by human activity, as forest clearing and mining exposed glacial sands. The German Afrika Korps is said to have trained here during World War II. Vegetation has since reclaimed much of the sand. Restoration work now clears plants to keep the dunes open.
