About Deliblato Sands
The largest sandy terrain in Europe, a remnant of sands left when the prehistoric Pannonian Sea drained. Elongated dunes run from southeast to northwest. Afforestation since the 19th century turned much of it into forest and steppe. A special nature reserve protects rare steppe plants and animals. Lies northeast of Belgrade near the Danube.
